It is rare to have someone that comes to Las Vegas who does not dream of hitting that major jackpot and going home rich. Maybe it is the clink of the coins falling from the slots, or the idea of getting that stellar hand at the card tables. Whatever it is, every year people come to Las Vegas with the idea of making their fortune gambling, and more often than not go home with significantly less than when they started.

When in Las Vegas, if you go home with money in your pocket, you should consider it a good trip. You should never expect to go home with money, and should just consider what you spend as the cost of the entertainment and drinks that enjoyed while you are there.

The best tactic in Las Vegas is a method that will allow you to play responsibly. Las Vegas will try to tempt you into placing just one more bet, spend one more chip, with the thought that you will eventually earn your money back. For the majority of people, however, this never happens.

First, you will want to take a look at where your money is going. Once it is converted into chips for play at the table, many people seem to forget that is their hard earned cash. Start by knowing exactly how much you are willing to lose at the tables. If you hit that amount, walk away.

Another smart tip is to pocket your winnings instead of reinvesting them in other bets at the table. That way you will have that money to gamble with at another time, or to buy yourself something nice at one of the many alluring shops around the town.

Also keep in mind that there is more to Las Vegas than the gambling tables and slots. There are plenty of shows, shops, museums, bars, and clubs to check out as well. So limit your time in the casino to a preset amount, and then go for a walk. So not forget to wear a watch ; many casinos do not have clocks, and time passes quickly under the magic and lights of the machines. Set a budget for the day before you go out: how much you are willing to gamble, how much you want to spend on meals, how much you will need for the shows and shopping, etc. ; and stick to it.

When you do gamble, gamble responsibly. Remember that all of the games favor the house, so if you play long enough, the house is always going to win. Do not go to the tables when you are sick, tired, or drunk as this will impair your ability to make good judgments. Make sure that you understand the rules of the game you are about to play ahead of time. Most casinos can help you out with gaming rules and etiquette.

If you do decide to gamble, keep in mind that some games are better than others for winning. There is no such thing as a hot slot machine ;they are all programmed to pay out randomly. Your best bets for winning a little money is to play video poker or blackjack. These games are relatively simple to learn, and employ about as much strategy and skill as they do luck, so the odds are more in your favor. Other games, such as roulette, may be fun to play ; but the chances of winning a bet are much lower.

Most importantly, remember the real reason you came to Las Vegas ; to have fun! As long as you can accomplish this goal, you will go home a winner!
