Weather wise Choosing the Right Time of Year for a Vegas Trip

One thing that people often fail to consider when they are booking their Las Vegas trip is the weather. Being in the middle of a desert, there is a good chance that it is going to be warm, but you should consider the weather and your plans when thinking of your vacation.

First off, you will want to consider your budget and the weather. For the cheapest room rates in Las Vegas, going during the summer is your best bet. However, the blistering heat may make it difficult to do outdoor activities that are not located around water. During the day time you will want to plan to do most of your indoor activities where the hotels and casinos keep the air conditioning running at a good clip, or spend several hours lounging out by the pool. To see the outdoor attractions of the Strip, you will want to pack your nights, when the temperatures drop down to much more comfortable mid seventy degrees or so.

If you are coming from a northern climate, even the winters in Las Vegas are more than likely going to be warmer than you are used to. Las Vegas rarely sees snow, and the daytime temperatures tend to range around the upper fifties and lower sixties. Nights can get a bit chilly, dropping into the thirties at times, so be sure to bring along a jacket if you plan to go out at night.

There really is not a noticeable spring or fall in Las Vegas, though the traditional spring and fall months tend to bring decent weather to the city. These make great times to visit, particularly if you avoid the major travel weekend holidays.

For an idea of the temperatures, November through March you can expect average lows in the thirties to forties and highs in the fifties and sixties. April through June it starts to warm up, with lows in the fifties and sixties and highs in the upper seventies and eighties. However, towards the end of June through August it is not unusual to see highs over 100 degrees, and until September the nights will remain in the seventies. September and October tend to have lows in the fifties and sixties, with daytime highs in the eighties and nineties.

If most of your time is going to be spent inside the casino or at one of the many shows, you will not have to think much about the weather. The hotels and casinos have developed climate control to a science, so temperatures indoors remain pretty steady. If you are sensitive to air conditioning you may want to bring a sweater, as the air is often significantly cooler inside to combat the outdoor heat.

If you are concerned about rainfall ruining your outdoor activities, do not expect a lot of it in Las Vegas. The most precipitation occurs during January through March, but even then the average is less than an inch per month. July and August have the most thunderstorm days, but at less than four per month there is a pretty good chance that your vacation weather will be nice. Check weather forecasts before you go to get the most up to date weather information so you will know whether or not to pack an umbrella.

Whatever the weather, Las Vegas has learned to handle it. So if you do end up there on one of the rare rainy days or an unusual cold or hot spell, just rearrange you schedule for the day to include more of the indoor shows or gambling that you wanted to do. There is a good chance that by the next day the weather will have improved to allow your outdoor activities once again.
